Institutional Biography for The Springfield Museums

Description

The Springfield Museums, located in Springfield, Massachusetts, originated in 1857 when the Springfield Institute and the Young Men's Literary Association merged to create the City Library Association. The City Library Association collections were moved from the facilities at City Hall to the Quadrangle in 1871, and the 5 museums that are on-site today were slowly incorporated; the George Walter Vincent Smith Decorative Art Museum (1888-1896) was the first addition, and the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum (2017), was the last addition. The Springfield Museums aim to "use art, history, science and Dr. Seuss to explore our shared connections and unique perspectives to promote engagement, literacy and learning."
